My Counselling

Welcome to my counselling page. Here, I'll explain how I work and what you can expect from our sessions together. My goal is to provide a warm, supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings freely.

Initial Consultation

I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation. This is an opportunity for us to meet, discuss what brings you to counselling, and see if we're a good fit for working together. It's a chance for you to ask any questions you might have and get a sense of how I work. There's no obligation to continue after this consultation - it's all about finding the right support for you.

My Approach

At the heart of my practice is humanistic counselling. This approach is founded on the belief that you are the expert of your own experience and have an innate capacity for growth and self-understanding. As a humanistic counsellor, I don't see myself as an authority figure with all the answers. Instead, I'm here to walk alongside you, creating a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings freely.

In our sessions, you'll find:

  • A focus on your unique experiences and perspectives
  • Encouragement to trust your inner wisdom and resources
  • Support in understanding yourself more deeply
  • An emphasis on your potential for personal growth and self-actualisation

Humanistic counselling is about helping you become more fully yourself. We'll work together to uncover your strengths, explore your values, and find ways for you to live more authentically and satisfyingly.

I also take an integrative approach to counselling, which means I can draw upon different therapeutic techniques to best suit your individual needs. This flexibility allows me to tailor our sessions to what works best for you.

Some of the approaches I might incorporate include:

Gestalt therapy: Focusing on present moment awareness and personal responsibility

Existential therapy: Exploring life's big questions and finding meaning in your experiences

Transactional analysis: Understanding patterns in your relationships and communication

By combining humanistic principles with these integrative techniques, we create a counselling experience that's uniquely suited to you. My goal is to provide a supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make positive changes in your life.

Remember, you're in the driver's seat of this journey. I'm here to support, guide, and sometimes gently challenge you, but always with the aim of helping you connect more deeply with yourself and your potential for growth and healing.

Areas of Focus

While I work with a wide range of issues, I have particular experience and interest in supporting clients through trauma and loss.

Trauma

Trauma can result from a single event or ongoing experiences that overwhelm our ability to cope. It can affect how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. Symptoms might include flashbacks, anxiety, depression, or difficulties in relationships.

In our work together, I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can process your experiences at your own pace. We'll explore how the trauma has impacted you and develop strategies to manage its effects, helping you regain a sense of safety and control in your life.

Loss

Loss comes in many forms, and it's not always related to death. It could be the end of a relationship, a significant life change, or the loss of a dream or expectation. Some of the types of loss I work with include:

  • Bereavement
  • Divorce or separation
  • Estrangement from family or friends
  • Job loss or career changes
  • Health-related losses
  • Abortion (supporting both men and women)

Regardless of the type of loss, the impact can be profound. You might experience a range of emotions, from sadness and anger to guilt or relief. In our sessions, I offer a safe space where all these feelings are welcome. We'll work together to process your grief, find ways to honour what you've lost, and gradually adjust to your new reality.

Whether you're dealing with trauma, loss, or any other challenge, my role is to provide a supportive, understanding presence. Together, we'll explore your experiences, identify your strengths, and work towards healing and growth. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. I'm here to support you on your journey towards greater well-being and self-understanding.
